About Bill Steele

Bill Steele is a dedicated community leader with a proven, decades-long track record of public service to Niagara Centre.

In his hometown of Port Colborne, Bill has served two terms as mayor and regional councillor, and previously spent 17 years helping his community grow and thrive as a local city councillor. At the regional level, Bill has helped fight crime and improve safety across Niagara by building up local law enforcement as two-time chair of the Niagara Police Service Board. He has also sat on numerous regional committees, from public works to planning and economic development.

As mayor, Bill has helped secure some of the largest public and private investments in his community’s history. In 2024 alone, Port Colborne broke ground on a $1.56 billion lithium-ion separator battery plant by Asahi Kasei and welcomed a $200 million investment from Jungbunzlauer to expand Canada’s first and only xanthan gum facility. The community also recently landed a $33 million biofuel terminal to help the Great Lakes marine industry transition to a more sustainable future — something that Bill, as part of his work with the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Cities Initiative, is very passionate about.

Outside of politics, Bill has extensive experience as a community builder and volunteer, dedicating 35 years to coaching youth sports, serving as president of his local minor hockey association, Lions Club, and Jaycees, and serving on the Niagara College Foundation and Ontario Trillium Foundation boards.

A small business owner, Bill’s family has been providing insurance services to the local Niagara community for over a century.

Proud husband to Debby and father to Mitch, Mack, and Riley, Bill is ready to get it done for Niagara Centre.
